Aging isn’t just a skincare issue; it’s a holistic issue that impacts every single part of the body.

As men and women approach midlife around age 40, we start to experience a drop in our hormone levels. This drop in hormone levels can affect us in many ways and both men and women can begin to experience symptoms such as fatigue, increase in body fat, memory loss, loss of muscle mass, mood swings and low or loss of their sex drive.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is a treatment in which hormones are prescribed to treat and reduce certain medical conditions in both men and women. It’s the newest form of Hormone Therapy and is different from Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) in that HRT use synthetic hormones developed in a lab while BHRT are plant derived and are identical to the hormones produced by the human body.

Is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Safe?

There have been studies that have raised concerns regarding the safety of HRT. These safety concerns revolved around two main issues:

  1. that the extended use of HRT may increase the risk of breast cancer and

  2. that the use of HRT may increase the risk of heart disease

In contrast, with Bioidentical Hormone Therapy (BHRT) both women and men can find relief from symptoms of hormonal imbalance without the risks that are associated with synthetic hormones. By taking a natural approach to hormone balance with BHRT both men and women can bio identically replace the hormones they lose over the course of their lives without the risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease associated with synthetic hormones (HRT).

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are derived from plant estrogens that are chemically identical to the hormones which are produced by the human body.  These plant estrogens, such as yams and soy, are designed to replicate the same molecules that are produced naturally by our bodies. Based on a review of a patients  hormone levels, a bioidentical hormone regimen can be individually tailored and specifically designed for that individual.

In contrast, synthetic hormones are patented designs which allows them to be mass produced for sale and distribution. This is not so with Bio-Identical Hormones because each regimen is specifically formulated to treat each patient on an individual basis. This gives forward thinking medical providers the ability to offer customizable effective treatments to their patients.

Who needs Bioidentical Hormones?

Almost anyone over the age of 40 (and in many cases over 30) begin to experience hormone imbalance. Over our lifetime, we are exposed to environmental and dietary toxins, which contribute to the natural decline of hormones as we age. In order to balance your hormones for optimal health and wellness, it is critical to be evaluated by a certified and highly trained provider who offers comprehensive lab testing and in-depth initial questionnaires – prior to creating a personalized treatment plan.
