What are PDO Threads

PDO Threads are a synthetic absorbable surgical suture composed of polydioxanone (PDO) a colorless, hypoallergenic, biocompatible synthetic polymer that is 100% absorbable.  PDO sutures are used to perform cardiothoracic surgery (such as open-heart surgery) in adults and infants. It's one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body.

PDO Threads Non-Surgical Face Lift, to lift, tighten and contour.  PDO threads are excellent for defining of the jaw line as well as lifting and tightening sagging skin of the jowls.  Even with slight swelling immediately after treatment, immediate results in this patient can be seen.

What Is A PDO Thread Lift with PDO Threads

A non-surgical face lift with PDO threads, commonly referred to as a thread lift, is a procedure where the threads are inserted underneath the skin to instantly and effectively lift and/or smooth sagging skin.  For example the PDO thread lift is an excellent option to correct sagging jowls, defining the jawline or tightening the neck.  Although the threads are mainly used on the face and the neck they can also be used to lift skin or tighten skin on other parts of the body.

The thread lifting procedure does not involve surgery. When performed correctly, a thread lift is minimally invasive, very safe and is an effective in-office procedure with little to no downtime.

Are there different Types of PDO Threads?

There are two main categories of PDO threads: non-barbed and barbed:

The “non-barbed” threads come in two main forms: smooth (mono-filament) and braided (twist, screw) and are used primarily for collagen and elastin production. They are primarily used to address fine lines and wrinkles.

Barbed (or cog) threads are thicker mono threads with barbs on the threads. These barbs hook and hold the tissue underneath the skin. When these barbed threads are inserted, the barbs open up like an umbrella to form an anchor or support structure that lifts and repositions the sagging tissue.

PDO threads come in a variety of lengths  shapes and thicknesses. Knowing how to use them correctly and effectively comes with experience, skill and knowledge. Although procedures using PDO threads can seem simple, they require advanced skills to use them effectively and safely.
